The Roberts Beach Wedding

There is a lot to love about being a wedding photographer in what I consider to be such a beautiful part of the world. Why did I phrase that statement in such a way? Well, some may disagree. But some people obviously don’t live here full time. Western New York is awesome. The variety in landscape and architecture alone ensures that there is never a dull moment, and the people are an absolute blast to work with.

When Katie and Shawn reached out to me and described their beach house wedding, I was immediately on board. I’m open to pretty much any situation as a photographer and have documented events of all shapes and sizes. But a “Do-it-yourself beach party with a great view celebrating two wonderful people who are clearly head over heels for each other” event? Count me in.

Right from act one, this wedding was obviously going to be a hit. The excitement that Katie and Shawn had was contagious, and everyone in attendance was thrilled to be a part of such a special day. There were a lot of pieces that made this wedding great, but the crème de la crème was Shawn’s awesome shirt. It immediately caught my attention, and clearly caught Katies as well.

The excitement kept going throughout the reception and carried its way throughout the evening. Have you ever seen such a photogenic group of people? I’m a firm believer that good people attract great people, and this wedding was living proof of such a theory.

As the night drew to a close, Katie and Shawn pulled out the perfect sendoff - Chinese lanterns. Now, I have personally never lit a Chinese lantern. I’m Eagle Scout, and I like my fire on the ground where it belongs. But the photographer in me pretty much started drooling when they pulled these out. And they did not disappoint. Not to bore my four readers to death with technical talk, but the ISO range on the Canon EOS is incredible. My style calls for natural light whenever possible, and I really put that unrealistic stance to the test for this portion of the day.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your day.

Newborns and Sears

When I was nineteen I got a job as a photographer at the Sears portrait studio in the Summit Park Mall. You can laugh at how dated that sentence is, I’ll wait.

I had countless new families come into the studio with their newborn babies. In the high-volume studio setting, the goal was to get people in and out as quickly as possible. Under thirty minutes was the goal, and any appointments more than fifteen minutes late were cancelled and rescheduled. Unfortunately for that business model, newborns don’t understand schedules yet.

For newborn photography, I like to keep it simple and in the comfort of the parents home if possible. Here’s why - In my experience both as a photographer and as a father, the best pictures of your family are when everyone is comfortable. Have a room that the baby likes? Let’s shoot it there. Need to take a break to tend to some tears? Take your time. Diaper time? Diaper time. I’ll be down the hall until you’re ready.

We weren’t in and out in under thirty minutes, and that was perfectly fine for everyone involved. Thank you to Maggie and Tyler for choosing me to photograph this special little guy.

Standard Property Management

Content is key for your website. It has to be unique, genuine, and relevant to your company. Now, I will admit that I love completely insane stock photography as much as the next guy. But, I also think that you should aim higher for your own website (unless your entire business focus is funny stock photography, in which case we should meet).

When Standard Property Management reached out to me, I was instantly excited to work with them. Our main focus for this session was to cover their headshots, building, and some additional content that they could use on their website. As someone who has rented from some questionable landlords in the past - it was refreshing to see a company that not only takes pride in what they do, but has a great team of people to keep things running smoothly.

We really enjoy working with the team at Standard Property Management, and I’m guessing that if you are looking to rent in Buffalo - you will too
